The platform serves as a central hub for promoting workshops, training sessions, and other activities that build resilience in young people in Barkerend, offering positive alternatives to violence, drugs, and anti-social behaviour.

Friends of Seymour Park

Young people will participate in creating and maintaining three to five wooden planter beds in the park to build a sense of ownership and pride. The project also includes three “Community Clean-Up Days” involving litter picking and general maintenance. It concludes with a “Party in the Park” summer celebration featuring activities, food, and information stalls focused on mental health.

Large Grants

1. Role Modelling and Career Support

As part of the Youth Resilience Programme’s large grant activities, four organisations
– ICEA Madni, Masjid Abu Bakar, Citizen Science and SEND Salaam – are collaboratively delivering a year-long
initiative titled “Role Modelling and Career Support.” These organisations, all deeply
rooted in BD3 area, are providing targeted support to help young people build
resilience, explore career opportunities, and develop essential life skills through a
range of inspiring and engaging activities.

Citizen Science

Citizen Science CIC delivers role modelling and career support through its Better Education, Better Life programme, providing academic mentoring and workshops led by relatable PhD tutors. The sessions support GCSE attainment, confidence, career awareness, and goal-setting, with additional one-to-one support delivered through local schools and community settings.

ICEA Madni

ICEA Madni delivers community-based workshops led by trusted local role models, helping young people explore career goals, subject choices, and pathways into employment. Sessions combine mentoring, guest speakers, and personal development activities to build confidence, resilience, and positive decision-making.

SEND Salaam

SEND Salaam runs an inclusive, art-therapy-based programme for young people with additional needs and disabilities, creating a safe space for self-expression and confidence-building. Through structured creative sessions, participants strengthen emotional regulation, self-worth, and resilience.

Masjid Abu Bakar

Masjid Abu Bakar engages young people through faith-informed education, sports, trips, and targeted workshops on issues such as bullying, crime prevention, and knife crime. The programme also supports young people and families through culturally appropriate guidance and career-related advice to raise aspirations and encourage positive life choices.

2. Encouraging Positive Mental Health

As part of the Youth Resilience Programme’s large grant initiative, Encouraging
Positive Mental Health programme is being delivered by three organisations:
Bradford Jubodhol, Al-Hikmah Youth Club, and Citizen Science. This
collaborative effort addresses the stigma around mental health in ethnic minority
communities and creates safe, supportive environments for young people to build
resilience and emotional well-being.

Bradford Jubodhol

Bradford Jubodhol is delivering a variety of well-being and creative activities aimed
at engaging both boys and girls. These include badminton and multi-sport sessions,
girls-only well-being workshops (such as painting, mehndi, and dessert-making), and
graffiti art workshops where participants design on items like t-shirts, bags, and
canvases. Their activities focus on building confidence, encouraging self-expression,
and providing safe spaces for young people to connect.

Al-Hikmah Masjid and Learning Centre

Al-Hikmah Masjid and Learning Centre is running a programme of creative and
physical activities for boys and girls. Activities include arts and crafts, self-defence
training, football tournaments, and swimming sessions. The initiative places
emphasis on mentoring and personal development, offering young people
opportunities for positive peer interaction and emotional support within a familiar
community setting.

Citizen Science

Citizen Science is delivering an academic mentoring and mental health support
programme at a local school in Barkerend. The initiative focuses on students who
lack educational support at home and may be at risk of falling behind. A structured
series of tutorials, led by PhD students supports students in developing academic
skills, confidence, and resilience. The sessions focus on improving university
awareness, critical thinking, and written communication, while also fostering a
stronger sense of belonging. Baseline and follow-up surveys are being used to track
progress in academic development and emotional well-being.
